Staff members and learners at Cockshut Hill School in Birmingham, an academy within Summit Learning Trust, are celebrating after receiving an Ofsted Good rating – the first ever in the school’s history and the result of many months and years of hard work by the whole community.
Cockshut Hill School has successfully achieved ‘Good’, with an ‘Outstanding’ grade for Personal Development. The school received the report following a successful inspection in June 2023, marking the significant improvements made since the school’s previous inspection in July 2019.
During their visit this summer, inspectors recognised the “significant progress” made at the school, which they said has “transformed” learners’ experiences. This is clearly the result of outstanding teaching and learning, with the report stating that “learners are determined to succeed and… committed to their learning.”
Ofsted recognised that leaders have “worked extensively to ensure that the school’s aim of ‘nothing but the best’ applies to every aspect of provision for students at Cockshut Hill School,” Inspectors also noted that “leaders at Cockshut Hill School have high expectations” for learner behaviour and as a result, “learners behave well, showing respect for each other and for visitors.”
Jason Bridges, principal of Cockshut Hill School, said: “It is a privilege to lead Cockshut Hill School which has now been recognised as a ‘Good’ school. One where learners can aim high and achieve their best.
“This achievement would not have been possible without support from our learners, staff members, our parents and carers, our governors and our Trust leaders.
“I am particularly pleased that Ofsted has recognised that our ambitions for the school have been achieved in a way which is sustainable for our staff and community as we strive to continue to provide exceptional provision, scaling new heights for our children, young people and communities.”
Vince Green, CEO of Summit Learning Trust, said: “I am delighted that the hard work and commitment of everyone at Cockshut Hill School and across Summit Learning Trust to provide ‘nothing but the best’ in educational provision and care for children and young people has been recognised.
“This report validates what we already knew: Cockshut Hill have been giving our learners outstanding life chances for some time, and I thank all colleagues, our families and the community for working so hard for the children we serve.”
