It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Cockshut Hill
Hospitality students cater Christmas buffet for local care home residents
Year 10 and 11 learners at Cockshut Hill School, part of the Summit Learning Trust, studying hospitality and catering prepared a Christmas buffet lunch for around 30 members of the local community this week under the supervision of their teacher Alpa Burke.
A wide variety of people attended from across the local community including representatives from St Thomas’ Church, Garretts Green, Yardley Conservation Society, Yardley Care Home, along with neighbours of Cockshut Hill School.
The festive buffet was served by the learners, who represented the school fantastically, showing great care and warmth when serving the guests and interacting with them. Those attending were also treated to a performance on the guitar by Yvie in Year 10 who is studying music, in addition to the school choir who sang traditional Christmas songs.
The guests were all very complimentary of the wonderful food prepared by the young people and the way in which the event was hosted by them.
One of the learners, Courtney in Year 11, commented:
” It was such a lovely thing to do, just before Christmas, I’m so sad that it is the last event I will do here before I take my exams.”
Jason Bridges, Principal at Cockshut Hill Said:
“I am so proud of the learners that put on this event. They did a wonderful job preparing all the food and hosting members of our local community. It’s so important that young people learn about the value of being part of society and contributing positively to their local area. I am delighted that Cockshut Hill can host events like this that are so warmly received by those attending.”
